Half Ripe

Unfortunately doc didn't say any magic words to me today (i.e. "You're 100% effaced and dilated and ready to push!!!") but I knew she wouldn't. She did seem to think I was progressing some though since I'm now 50% effaced. So that's something at least.

She recommended that I go for long walks. I asked if the 22 miles I've walked in the last 6 days counted for something?

Anyway, I read Gordo's Blog today where he talked about how fit his wife stayed through her pregnancy... that was all cool to read because I could relate in that I'm feeling like I was able to maintain some reasonable level of swimming fitness at least through these last 9 months... but then I made the mistake of continuing reading about her labor and delivery and now maybe I'm changing my mind about wanting to give birth? I like how Allison described hers instead. Quick and easy.

I wonder how I can order Allison's "quick and easy" rather than "watching young people die or seeing people being broken via torture", as Gordo described his wife's labor... Any tips???

Forget it. I changed my mind. I'll just stay pregnant forever.

apparently 22 miles isn't enough! add on another 10 for me this week - well, maybe 15 since i had the donuts! oh, and i read gordo's blog post (cool!) but wisely stopped once i saw the 35+ hours labor. i prefer ignorance at this point...i'm pretending we'll all be like allison.

50% effaced is certainly something. I was a walking machine towards the end of my pregnancy as well but because I was still running a few miles everyday a I'm pretty sure the walking did nothing for me. I think walking only helps if you aren't in shape. All I can tell you about delivery is that it will probably be nothing like what you are expecting it be. My fingers are crossed that you have a quick and easy delivery process.

Hey I've started exploring your links--very interesting stuff. Thanks for the info, and keep on effacing!

The OB did say that she thought my fitness level had something to do with things. I apparently have a high pain tolerance to have come in already dilated to a 6 without feeling really in pain. The epidural didn't hurt. So, I think a lot of it is chance, but your fitness will surely help in there somewhere! I did think about Ironman and how those hurt WAY more to me than childbirth! And are longer (in my case ;)).

Erm...I hope you didn't follow the link to Gordo's blog from mine. If you did, I warned you NOT TO GO THERE YET!!! Oh well. Now you see why.

There's no way to know what we'll get with labor but there are two things I'm sure of: (1) you'll be able to handle it, and (2) you'll be very proud of what you accomplished when you're done.
