40 Minutes at 24 Hour Fitness

Today, for the first time, I took Moana to the child care at the 24 Hour Fitness I belong to. Nothing like dropping your sweet little daughter off in a day care room for the first time to make a mama nervous.

I actually really enjoy lifting weights. Ok, I don't actually enjoy the act of lifting weights, BUT I think it keeps me injury free and I like the way it makes me feel afterward. So I do it when I can fit it in to my schedule.

Previously, before Moana was 6 months old and allowed in the gym day care, that meant trading in an AM swim or run workout for weights, which I was willing to do until racing season got close. Then it just seemed that swimming and running should take priority. I guess my other option would have been to go at night after Scott got home from work, but I'm trying to stay married through all this training and being away from husband both morning and night doesn't exactly further that cause.

Anyway, now that I'm back into sort of a 'base training' mode, I'm back to weight training. And its easier to fit in now because I can go mid-morning and drop Moana off in the kids room to play. I figured that she might actually really enjoy it- a change of scenery is something always good for her, and she really seems to dig watching older kids run around and play. She doesn't have any attachment issues to me either, so watching me walk out of the room hasn't been an issue (so far). I'm hoping that by starting her early with this kind of stuff that maybe the attachment issue will never actually be an issue?? I'll let you know if it works.

Anyway, even given all that, I was still all nervous for her this morning. So nervous, in fact, that I didn't even wear my iPod while I was lifting but instead just listened intently to the gym speakers in case my name was called that they needed me back in the kids room. So nervous that I whipped through my full body 60 minute routine in 40 minutes. So nervous that I hardly even remember lifting this morning because all I thought about the whole time was whether or not she was doing ok.

I should have known better. All sweaty after rushing through my workout, I opened the door of the kids room and saw my sweet little daughter happily playing in one of those exersaucer things. She doesn't have one of those at home so she was totally intrigued by it. The gal in charge said she was a doll the whole time. Of course she was.

On Friday, when I'll be back for my second weights session of the week, hopefully I will be a little more comfortable with the whole situation. Leaving your kid with people you don't know is a lot more stressful than I previously would have thought! But of course it was all fine.

Glad to hear that Moana enjoyed the childcare at the gym. Elena LOVES it and I honestly feel that if I don't bring her she is being deprived from social interaction...so off I go to the pool even when I don't want to. Most days she doesn't want to leave, I guess this means I should swim longer! I am sure that Moana will continue to enjoy it :)

That's great that she loves the day care. One of my best friends works at one and when she took her daughter there after returning from maternity leave, she barely noticed when her mummy came over to visit her at lunchtime!

I just started a weight program last year and love it - even doing it after a run!

TOTALLY get this! The first time I dropped off Jackson I swear every lap I did I stopped and looked around, because surely SOMEONE MUST be looking for me, right?right? and no one was. Then I got to the daycare room and he was happy as a clam, pushing a shopping cart around. Now he goes straight for the little kitchen! I do have to *sneak* out a little bit, and he is very glad to see me come get him! But he has fun and mommy gets a workout in--good stuff! :)

I wish mine loved the gym daycare scene. he cries and cries and they have to call for me to come get him. I wish I would have been able to introduce him to it when he was little....we only started when he was 1. I'm hoping he eventually gets used to it!

The first couple of times I took Nathan to the gym I would check on him 2-3 times PER CLASS. The ladies must have thought I had a wicked small bladder. It gets easier. What harm can be done in one hour? All I have to say though is SANITIZE SANITIZE SANITIZE!

The first few times are SOOO hard. I kept checking on Nick every 10 minutes! I was swimming laps and I'd get out, go through the locker room and peek into the daycare room, every 10 min for like 45 minutes!! Now I feel so much better about it!

Yeah - that's GREAT news! I can totally imagine your nerves...but she's such a super star (and so are you!)

Even though we go to daycare I still get all nervous when we leave him at the gym daycare. He's always fine and loves the new toys but like you, I just keep waiting to hear my name called. Glad Moana handled it like a champy. Ah ha ha ha! DC Mamma's comment about sanitizing almost has me in tears. Those little germs stick to them no matter what you do - trust me!

Ryan didn't start with separation anxiety until around 8-9 months...Brayden on the other hand was bad at 5 months. I hope Moana continues to be a self sufficient and social little girl. It makes it so much easier on both of you!

I wasn't jealous of your beach adventures, but I sure am jealous of the gym time...I don't have gym access anymore so lifting weights doesn't happen.

i love my regular day care, but andra hasn't been back to gym daycare since she was 2.5 months when i went back to work. she'll go this summer some, i think it's harder when you know they might come get you!!!
