Scott arrived home from work this evening to a house full of music and dancing... his happy wife was hopping around the kitchen preparing an interesting meal and his happy daughter crawled all over him the moment he walked in the door. His happy dog tried to get a piece of the attention as well!
It occurred to me tonight that the mood in this house is often set by me. Scott is just so easy going and mellow that he can always be in a good mood- regardless of how stressful work is or if he couldn't make the soccer game or whatever. I, on the other hand, am a little more fickle. Overall I can't say I have a lot to complain about, but some days are just better than others. And on the good days, I dance around the house while preparing dinner and laughing with my daughter. Today was one of those days.
So what do I need in order to be so happy that I dance in my own kitchen? In no particular order... a clean kitchen, some good food, a couple of good workouts, a baby who is not tired or hungry, and a husband who is home.

You know what's funny? You put a clean kitchen first. That's so true!
I get SOOOO crabby when the kitchen is a mess and gross. I also get crabby when the house is not picked up. Clean? Not so much a problem. Shit everywhere? I am a total witch!
Your list is the same as mine. Funny. I would add, though, that I have a PROJECT underway that I'm working toward, and working toward it is going well.
SO TRUE! The kitchen is always clean here b/c I can NOT stand a messy kitchen. BUT, like Mary, I just need things picked up - clean, don't care as much. I try hard to have dinner up and running but working from home - I often look up at the computer and it is 5.30pm and I haven't thought about dinner or the house! Eeks!
My husband is also definitely the laid back one, where as I am a stressfest most of the time :) It's a good balance though.
I do not think it is possible for Moana to be any cuter - however I have a feeling that she's going to keep outdoing each photo you post. Glad you have a happy kitchen! :)
Our house is basically the same. My Scott's moods don't have much variation and he is always content and I am more of the roller coaster. Most all of my recent moods have stemmed from my hip because I am sometimes in pain and don't want to take Elena anywhere or I just don't have that endorphin release anymore. In a way it has really tested my coping skills and I have learned to be happy without the usual things I enjoy.
I had to laugh at your list because you said a COUPLE good workouts...you are clearly IM training if need more than 1 workout to make it a happy day :)
This is so true! It's amazing what a clean house and good workouts will do! I often have to remember that I set the tone for the house when I am feeling very crabby. My hubby has a pretty stressful job and I want to make sure he is coming home to fun! My daughter and I wait on the front steps for him so he has an audience to welcome him home! It's great!
Totally agree! Nate is the level-headed one who just "goes with the flo", while I'm not-a-happy-camper if stuff is a mess (in particular, the kitchen).
And YES - I hear you on the great workouts...nice to have those, eh? Keep it up! CUTE picture!!!
Ok should i be the 5th female to say "ditto?" :) I guess that is why we are all blogging about it. Rich is the one who listens to me get all worked up over a time trial ( ahem) or something really minor in the big scope. and I know it but i still have to vent about it...
and I wanted to say thanks! I was all into the "find another gear" on my last TT last night..until i had disc and brake issues and had to stop 3 x in a 7 mile TT. oops. So the gears were still there and i found them on my JH killer interval run today. As i was finishing the last 4-3-2-1 I kept saying "Michelle has gears, so do you..GOOOOO!!!"
Your recipe for happiness is same as me! Simple, easy, but some days so hard to come by. :)
I couldn't agree more! Life is good. :o)
ha, this is just so true. I think all the men are so laid back because they can be. We do it all for them...most of them that is.
I know Tim pitches in on the occasion that he sees me entering my "holy crap this place is a disaster" tantrum.
Clean kitchen a must!
cute post - Agree!!
I, too, am the more tempormental one and the kitchen is my hearth. The rest of the house can be dirty, but that kitchen...always spotless (or I am b*tchy).
Are we all the same? I think I too set the mood in our home. But I would NEVER be happy if having a clean kitchen was on my list of things on the list to make me happy. The cleaning lady was here yesterday and already it's a disaster.
I LOVE this post! Everyone needs to dance in the kitchen (or anywhere for that matter!)
