After a stressful day my HR will be higher so I would have to run much slower to stay in a particular zone. I do agree that being dependent on cagets is not good, but I wonder how many people are really dependent on them? My Garmin died in races before and I was still able to run:)Running and livinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00057835870342142162noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1403432524962865970.post-22695218585930688532010-02-25T09:00:51.271-10:002010-02-25T09:00:51.271-10:00Another great post. Since you have been in the sport for so long it is fun to hear about your relationship with gadgets. I did my first triathlon when I was 19, but training was a low priority for me and spent much of my early 20s partying rather than training. You must have taken this sport pretty seriously for all of your years to fit in all those IMs!Rebecca DeWirehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02415966459988763348noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1403432524962865970.post-5314675699699316772010-02-25T05:50:38.392-10:002010-02-25T05:50:38.392-10:00I really liked this post. I also like to do the 'feel' test sometimes running without it; getting to know what my body feels like on instinct rather that being a slave to the watch. It is somehow so satisfying to be in touch with your body. I still have a ways to go, but the journey is exciting.

FWIW, you might want to check out this article in the NY Times on HR vs. time of day when training.

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/10/health/nutrition/10best.html?_r=1Reginahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09860306741449772444noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1403432524962865970.post-29711332572118456902010-02-25T04:13:29.347-10:002010-02-25T04:13:29.347-10:00I think certain data is more useful than others. H...I think certain data is more useful than others. Heart rate is so variable that it is hard to use totally effectively. Pace and power just ARE--so they are more useful, in my opinion.
I hated training with a hrm when I was told I had to stay in a very low zone to achieve proper aerobic base. I HATED IT--so much I stopped using hr as a measure. But if you are not necessarily training that way--if not every run has to be zone1/2, then it is a more fun piece of info. to have.GetBackJoJohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12971771566518642672noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1403432524962865970.post-1628111100086974332010-02-25T03:14:44.832-10:002010-02-25T03:14:44.832-10:00Ack, such a timely post for me!

I JUST learned to run 'til it hurts, but of course my heart rate would tell me to slow the f down!jessicahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12912676758384794239noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1403432524962865970.post-27973404440538947812010-02-25T02:57:46.552-10:002010-02-25T02:57:46.552-10:00I have a hummingbird heart too!
